Investing in Our Community

United Way of Virginia's Eastern Shore cares about what matters in our community. We value our community and dedicate ourselves to impacting lives and getting results. We have one mission: To help improve the quality of life for all residents of the Eastern Shore. What matters is the lives we change and the communities that we help. For a family who has lost their home after a fire, providing shelter matters. For a mother who cannot afford childcare, low-cost after school programs matter. For a senior citizen unable to drive, transportation services matter. For a parent whose child needs specialized medical care in Hampton Roads and can't afford bridge toll, guest services programs at the hospitals matter.

Where does the money come from?
From generous people like you. Wether you choose to participate by payroll deduction through a work place campaign or as an individual donor, every dollar helps us reach our goal. Since 1991, we have raised over 4.1 million dollars through our annual fund-raising campaigns.

Why Invest in United Way of Virginia's Eastern Shore?

United Way is Local
Funds raised on Virginia's Eastern Shore stay on the Shore unless you designate otherwise. The agencies that receive funds provide programs that serve your friends, family and neighbors from all walks of life.

United Way is Effective
United Way funding helps touch the lives of many Accomack and Northampton County residents each year.

United Way is Efficient
Volunteers are at the heart of United Way of Virginia's Eastern Shore decision-making, so fundraising and administrative costs are held to a minimum, making your gift work as hard as you do. Our 3-year average administrative expense is only 14.1%. If you are interested in volunteering, please call or email our Executive Director, Flo Bowers.

United Way is Accountable
An independent audit is conducted annually. Local volunteers also review funding requests and make the allocation decisions, ensuring that every doller is spent wisley.
