2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember number to connect people with information on community services.    This resource directs callers to agencies that provide basic human needs utility assistance, housing g, health care, food/meals and income support and assistance.  It can useful for anyone new to an area, people with limited vision or reading skills, and those who do not speak English.  2-1-1 is a free service and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 364 day a year.

2-1-1 maintains a database of more than 6,000 agencies with more than 20,000 active and seasonal programs.  Ms. Dariah explained how having every government, nonprofit and community-based agency or business registered is a benefit to the community, so when someone calls for help, the 2-1-1 operator can provide as many resources as possible.  Agencies are encouraged to register by simply going to www.211Virginia.org and clicking the Add Your Agency button in the upper right hand corner.  The form that comes up is user friendly and easy to follow.
